Musical Jhilam

Trained by maestro Dipali Nag in Indian classical and semi-classical music for sixteen years, Jhilam Roy Chowdhury, a Musician – Composer – Vocalist (Bengali, Hindi, Ghazal, Sufi, Semi classical, Rabindra-Nazrul-Atul Prasad) she mesmerized all her audience over last 35 years. She is an independent musician who publishes her songs as a self-enterprising singer and composes original music in Bengali contemporary songs and Ghazals.

When she was only ten years old, her parents moved to the city of ‘Calcutta’ from interior Bengal, in order to ensure that their elder daughter, who they realised had a gifted voice, could receive the best possible training in Hindusthani Classical Music. She was groomed by ‘the first lady of Ragpradhan’ Vidushi Dipali Nag, and under her tutelage went on to perform in various concerts in Calcutta and other parts of India. When a young Jhilam accompanied her Guru to Delhi, someone from the audience came up to tell her that she reminded him of a “young Dipali Nag”.

After a long break from music owing to professional tours & relocation and to her child and family Jhilam started again in 2018 in all forms of vocal music in her domain.

Some of her music videos have received huge following on youtube and facebook, especially her ghazals. Her rendition of the unsung part of the Indian National anthem received unparalled adulation from the audience.

Jhilam was also trained by Shri Rabin Mukherjee for ten years in Rabindra Sangeet and by Shri. Ashis Chakrabarty & Smt. Malabika Chakrabarty in Bengali contemporary music for 12 years.
